CLAP CLAP a quick flash across the sky line
Oh i quickly covered my ears
	That darn lightening, so bright
With ears tightly covered i anxiously waited
Then BOOM BOOM the thunder roars
The loose zincs rattled and the earth shakes

	 Pitter**** Patter ****Pitter ****Patter

Looking to the hills nothing but a mist of white
It seems slowly creeping over the tree tops
The community is awaken and all the yards comes alive
Wives make a dash to remove all the laundry from the clothes line
Children hurry to find their resting place until the rain is gone

	Pitter**** Patter***** Pitter**** Patter

The roof slowly began to chatter
The roof plays like a band
Oh the sweet sound of the rain above my head
Oh the warmth of my mother’s blanket
	passed down from many generations
lying so cozy beneath my body.
Oh the smell emitting from the kitchen
boiled bananas, dumplings, yams, ackee and saltfish

	Pit ***Pat**** Pit ****Pat

	Then silence
The freshness of the air tingles my nostril
As i stretched and peeked through the cracks
	Everything looks so bright
The trees in the hills sparkled with new life
The children rushed out to splash in the pools of water
And I stood by the window watching them laugh and play
the simple pleasures of life are priceless
with arms stretched and the growling of my stomach
It feels good to be back in my island home.
